William Roper is a multi-disciplinary artist performing primarily on tuba and primitive aerophones. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cal State Northridge and Carnegie-Mellon University. He has toured the two Americas, Europe and Japan as soloist and with jazz and classical ensembles. He is represented on 60+ recordings with artists such as Yusef Lateef, Wadada Leo Smith, Anthony Braxton, Elton John, Esa Pekka Salonen and motion picture scores.

He has released 14 recordings as leader/co-leader. He has received commissions from the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, Koan Quartet, SASSAS, USC Kade Institute, Eastside Arts Initiative, Arts Council Tokyo and others. He has collaborated on works in dance, theatre and video.

William Roper has held residencies at institutions in California, Germany and Japan. He has received awards from the NEA, California Arts Council, LADCA, Durfee Foundation and others. He has exhibited in galleries and museums in the U.S. and Europe.
