Christina Kirchinger develops her graphics through daily drawing. Her spatial constellations reflect inner states and sensitivities in the surrounding outdoor space. She is fascinated by man-made space, ‘especially in its structure, in the peculiarity of its spatial extension into depth [...] and its abrupt closure in the surface’. Exposure, opening and concealment are recurring themes.

During her residency at the VCCA, Kirchinger worked on the idea of the window as a threshold. In windows, doors or even open books, several spatial levels overlap. They can be entrances, passageways or transitions. Through her encounter and exchange with an American poet, Kirchinger developed a novel ten-part series. This was inspired by a poem by this writer, which subsequently led to a collaboration beyond the residency.

Christina Kirchinger (*1987) completed her studies in 2015 with a Master's degree in Fine Arts and Aesthetic Education at the University of Regensburg. Her graphic works have been shown in solo exhibitions throughout Germany. They have also been featured in group exhibitions in Germany, France, Romania, Austria, Czechia and the USA.
