Lena Schabus uses the possibilities of image manipulation to create an image-immanent reality in her digitally generated works, which only depart from the world of experience to such an extent that the interventions only become apparent upon closer inspection. The means of digital image distortion allow subjective perceptions of a place to be condensed and intensified. These are impressions that cannot be fully represented in a single photograph. The result is images that come closer to the reality experienced than a pure photographic representation.
Lena Schabus (*1990) studied fine art and aesthetic education at the University of Regensburg and, in addition to other prizes and scholarships, received the Culture Promotion Prize of the City of Regensburg and the Debutant Promotion Prize of the Free State of Bavaria. She is also a finalist for the 2026 Arte Laguna Prize in Venice. International artist-in-residence stays have taken her to Virginia (USA), Linz (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), Pilsen (Czechia) and Pujols (France). Her works are exhibited internationally and were most recently on display at the Noorderlicht Biennial and the Museum Villa Rot.
