As part of the Artist-in-Residence Program (A-i-R Program), the Friends of the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus e.V. sends Bavarian artists, writers, and composers to partner institutions around the world for a period of several weeks. In return, the Künstlerhaus welcomes around 20 international artists, writers, and composers each year to live and work in the idyllic surroundings of Schwandorf-Fronberg.

The duration of the residency is 4 to 8 weeks.
Calls for applications are usually announced in the late fall of each year. The only exception is the Quebec Writers' Scholarship, which is announced in the first half of each year.
You can only apply for a residency in Schwandorf through one of our partner institutions, not by contacting us directly.
The International Künstlerhaus offers:
- Two studios for fine artists.
- One studio each for a writer and a composer.
- Four rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, bed linen and towels are provided.
- One ground-floor apartment for handicapped access, an ensuite bathroom, bed linen and towels are provided.
- Communal kitchen and living room, communal garden, and balcony.
- Laundry room with washing machine, dryer, and iron.
- Office equipped with computer and printer.

Library
The kitchen is fully equipped, groceries must be purchased independently. The communal areas are cleaned regularly, the rooms can be cleaned on request. Free WIFI is available throughout the building.
Bicycles can be borrowed for a €20 deposit to explore the area. If you have experience in printmaking, it is possible to use the Kebbel Villa's printmaking workshops for lithography, etching, and screen printing by appointment.
During their residency, the artists open their studios on Open Studios Day. Visitors will have the opportunity to get a special insight into the creative process and to talk to the artists.
The International Künstlerhaus was founded by the Friends of the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus e.V. with the support of many private and public sponsors and is run by the association, which also finances the ongoing exchange program. Since 1994, the International Künstlerhaus has been a member of the worldwide network of arts residencies, Res Artis.
