Vivaldi's most famous work is combined in this program with specially arranged interludes from the operas of the Venetian composer Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, based on Goldoni's works. Wolf-Ferrari's late Romantic music captures the joyful, yet always slightly melancholic mood in a breathtakingly beautiful way. The well-known Italian playwright Goldoni was a contemporary of Antonio Vivaldi and even wrote the libretto for Vivaldi's opera "Griselda."
